How it works

  1. Book

Pick a date in the ReSmart app or on the web. Pay per pickup, or use your council's subsidised pickups where they apply.

  2. Bag it

Anything with a plug or a battery that fits in a shopping bag: phones, laptops, chargers and cables, kettles, toasters, hairdryers, headphones, games consoles. Bigger items, like a microwave, monitor or TV, go in the same pickup; large TVs, fridges and washing machines too, priced by volume.

  3. Leave it out

Put your items at your door on pickup day. Our driver collects them with anything else you’re recycling, and you can see where it all ends up.

What happens to your e-waste

E-waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world. Many valuable materials inside it, like copper, gold, silver, platinum and zinc, can be used again.

We work alongside our approved recycling partners to recover those materials from the e-waste we pick up from residents and businesses, rather than letting it go to landfill.

E-waste recycling in Canberra: FAQs

Where can I recycle e-waste in Canberra?

From your own doorstep. ReSmart picks up e-waste across Canberra, in the suburbs listed above and more, together with your soft plastics and textiles and other hard-to-recycle items. There is no drop-off point to drive to: book a pickup and leave your e-waste out. Check your address on where we collect.

How much does a ReSmart pickup cost?

ReSmart pickups start from $19. If your council subsidises ReSmart, pickups can be free or discounted. You see your exact price when you book.

What e-waste do you take?

Any electrical item with a plug or a battery: phones, laptops, computer parts, chargers and cables, kettles, toasters, hairdryers, heaters, microwaves, printers, vacuum cleaners, speakers, monitors and TVs, fridges and washing machines. As with everything we collect, it just can’t be wet, organic or dangerous. See the full list.

Do I need to be home for the pickup?

No. Leave your bags outside your front door on pickup day. If you would rather use a more accessible spot, add a pickup note when you book, and you can add a photo of where the items are on the summary page.

What else can go in the same pickup in Canberra?

We collect everything, as long as it’s not wet, organic or dangerous. Soft plastics, textiles, e-waste, cardboard, polystyrene, batteries, light bulbs and the other misfit items all go in one booking, from one doorstep, wherever we pick up in Australia. See the full list of what we pick up.

What happens to e-waste in Canberra after pickup?

It goes to our approved e-waste recycling partners, where valuable materials like copper, gold, silver, platinum and zinc are recovered to be used again. More about e-waste recycling.

Can businesses in Canberra get e-waste picked up?

Yes. Offices and cafes use the Office Pack, and businesses with larger volumes use a Commercial Pack with an e-waste stream, with a dashboard that reports what was collected.
