How it works

  1. Book

Pick a date in the ReSmart app or on the web. Pay per pickup, or use your council's subsidised pickups where they apply.

  2. Leave the boxes as they are

Empty boxes that don’t fit in your recycling bin, from a house move or a new TV. No need to remove tape and labels or flatten them: your driver takes care of that.

  3. Leave it out

Put your items at your door on pickup day. Our driver collects them with anything else you’re recycling, and you can see where it all ends up.

What happens to your cardboard boxes

We work alongside our approved recycling partners to find the best solution for every item: reusing first, then recycling, rather than landfill.

Cardboard recycling in Melbourne: FAQs

Where can I recycle cardboard boxes in Melbourne?

From your own doorstep. ReSmart picks up cardboard boxes across 18 Melbourne councils, listed above, together with your soft plastics, e-waste and textiles and other hard-to-recycle items. There is no drop-off point to drive to: book a pickup and leave your cardboard boxes out. Check your address on where we collect.

How much does a ReSmart pickup cost?

ReSmart pickups start from $19. If your council subsidises ReSmart, pickups can be free or discounted. You see your exact price when you book.

What cardboard boxes do you take?

Empty cardboard boxes that don’t fit in your recycling bin: moving boxes, delivery boxes, the box a new TV or appliance came in. Tape and labels can stay on, and they don’t need to be flattened. See the full list.

Do I need to be home for the pickup?

No. Leave your bags outside your front door on pickup day. If you would rather use a more accessible spot, add a pickup note when you book, and you can add a photo of where the items are on the summary page.

What else can go in the same pickup in Melbourne?

We collect everything, as long as it’s not wet, organic or dangerous. Soft plastics, textiles, e-waste, cardboard, polystyrene, batteries, light bulbs and the other misfit items all go in one booking, from one doorstep, wherever we pick up in Australia. See the full list of what we pick up.

What happens to cardboard boxes in Melbourne after pickup?

It goes to our approved recycling partners to be recycled, instead of overflowing your bin or sitting on the kerb. More about cardboard pickups.

Can businesses in Melbourne get cardboard boxes picked up?

Yes. Offices and cafes use the Office Pack, and businesses with larger volumes use a Commercial Pack with a packaging stream for soft plastics, cardboard and polystyrene, with a dashboard that reports what was collected.
