How it works
Book
Pick a date in the ReSmart app or on the web. Pay per pickup, or use your council's subsidised pickups where they apply.
Bag it
Clothes, shoes, bags and accessories, in good or poor condition, as long as they’re clean. Bed linen and pillows go in too.
Leave it out
Put your items at your door on pickup day. Our driver collects them with anything else you’re recycling, and you can see where it all ends up.
What happens to your clothes and textiles
We work alongside our approved partners to find the best solution for every item: reusing first, then recycling. Wearable clothes are donated to local charities, so they get a second life instead of ending up in landfill.
Textile recycling in Melbourne: FAQs
Where can I recycle clothes and textiles in Melbourne?
From your own doorstep. ReSmart picks up clothes and textiles across 18 Melbourne councils, listed above, together with your soft plastics and e-waste and other hard-to-recycle items. There is no drop-off point to drive to: book a pickup and leave your clothes and textiles out. Check your address on where we collect.
How much does a ReSmart pickup cost?
ReSmart pickups start from $19. If your council subsidises ReSmart, pickups can be free or discounted. You see your exact price when you book.
What clothes and textiles do you take?
Clothes and accessories in good or poor condition, as long as they’re clean: shirts, jeans, jackets, dresses, kids’ clothes, shoes, bags, belts and hats. Bed linen and pillows too. As with everything we collect, they just need to be dry: nothing wet or mouldy. See the full list.
Do I need to be home for the pickup?
No. Leave your bags outside your front door on pickup day. If you would rather use a more accessible spot, add a pickup note when you book, and you can add a photo of where the items are on the summary page.
What else can go in the same pickup in Melbourne?
We collect everything, as long as it’s not wet, organic or dangerous. Soft plastics, textiles, e-waste, cardboard, polystyrene, batteries, light bulbs and the other misfit items all go in one booking, from one doorstep, wherever we pick up in Australia. See the full list of what we pick up.
What happens to clothes and textiles in Melbourne after pickup?
Wearable clothes are donated to local charities. Everything else goes to our approved partners to be reused or recycled into yarn or insulation, not to landfill. What happens to your items.
Can businesses in Melbourne get clothes and textiles picked up?
Yes. Offices and cafes use the Office Pack, and businesses with larger volumes use a Commercial Pack with a textiles stream, for things like old uniforms and offcuts, with a dashboard that reports what was collected.
